Photography - Colourized - Vintage - American Civil War - Confederate soldier and his family

This is a colourized version of a black and white photo taken during the American Civil War. (1861-1865). The man is a Confederate soldier. No one smiled in photographs in that era and particularly not during the Civil War. Even the child isn't smiling. This is another example of us today looking at a photograph from the past and wondering whatever happened to the people depicted in it. No one will ever know. They are not just lost to us but they are lost to history. But looking at them keeps them alive, if only for a moment.
